THE 2003 SARDINIAN RALLY:
A brief account of the Fasola school

It is customary for the Fasola School to occasionally participate in a competition. We usually do this by bringing together a group of friends and “clients” racing with a School team. The Sardinian Rally was on the agenda this year.. An opportunity having presented itself that we did not wish (or couldn’t) ignore. Joan Roma and Cyril Despres, KTM officials of the great Raid rallies, expressed their intention of participating in the Sardinian race, and for a series of motives contacted us for assistance in the rally. We accepted the challenge with great enthusiasm, and undertook to prepare their bikes, completed the rally registration formalities and logistics. At the last moment Fabrizio Meoni, a long standing friend and collaborator of ours, decided to join the Super Team, which meant that the Fasola Team School was ready for action, and for once boasted the leading riders in the world.
An unforgettable experience.
Joan “Nani” Roma, won the race ahead of Matteo Graziani, who is the record holder, having won four victories, and in front of Paolo Ceci. Unfortunately Cyril Despres who was originally in the lead, fell on the second day, and although he did not suffer any serious physical injuries he was obliged to pull out of the competition. While Fabrizio Meoni, came in at seventh place, with no apparent effort on his part (he came merely for a training session), and I was also satisfied by my performance in winning the last two specials and the last leg of the race.
Apart from the unfortunate incident of Despres, I would say that everything went perfectly.
This is how things went in a nutshell, and I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in this wonderful event, as well as the organizers of this great Italian rally and all the fans.
